Indian automakers dispatched nearly 2.92 lakh passenger vehicles, the highest ever for February so far, driven by strong demand for cars and utility vehicles, industry body SIAM said on Friday. The total passenger vehicle dispatches from companies to dealers last month increased 11 per cent to 2,91,928 units from 2,62,984 units in February 2022. Passenger car sales rose to 1,42,201 units in February against 1,33,572 units in the year-ago period.

According to the figures released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, motorcycle sales in the country during the month was up by 7.39 per cent at 5,13,209 units, against 4,77,901 units a year ago. Total two-wheeler sales in May went up by 6.99 per cent at 6,47,358 units, compared to 6,05,014 units in the same month last year.

Passenger vehicle dispatches from factories to dealers in India fell 8 per cent in January, mainly due to semiconductor shortage, auto industry body SIAM said on Friday. The total passenger vehicle wholesales dropped to 254,287 units in January 2022 as compared to 276,554 units in the same month of last year. Last month, passenger car dispatches stood at 126,693 units as compared to 153,244 units in the year-ago period. Similarly, van dispatches declined to 10,632 units in the period under review from 11,816 units in January 2021.

According to Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, domestic passenger car sales rose 8.99 per cent in January, while the two wheelers continued the downhill ride with 10.96 per cent decline in comparison to the corresponding month last year. Domestic passenger car sales in the country stood at 1,13,899 units as against 1,04,501 units in the same month last year, it said.

The passenger vehicle dispatches to dealers increased by 11 per cent in July as improvement in semiconductor supplies helped the companies to ramp up production ahead of the festive season, auto dealers' body SIAM said on Friday. Overall passenger vehicle wholesales increased to 293,865 units last month compared to 264,442 units in July 2021. Passenger car dispatches rose 10 per cent to 143,522 units in July from 130,080 units in the year-ago period.

The total automobile sales in India dropped by 4.7 per cent during the fiscal year 2007-08, at 9,648,105 units as compared to 10,123,988 units in the last financial year. Motorcycle sales in the country during the year were down by 11.9 per cent at 57,68,341 units, against 65,47,195 units in 2006-07. Sales of the domestic passenger car rose by 12.2% in March 2007-08 to 128,074 units from 114,145 units in the same month last year. Total two-wheeler sales were down by 0.41%.
